Wooden Board Horse Fencing

Wooden Horse Fencing can be "3 Board" or "4 Board" in design.  Naturally, 3 board horse fencing saves material and labor costs.  In addition to price, consider the objective of your Georgia horse fence.  Many horse owners believe the 4 board discourages horses from pawing the fence and "hanging up" a hoof or leg.  Having a narrower space between the boards discourages wandering critters from scooting under your Georgia horse fence and onto your property.  Horse owners with less curious horses, content to stay in their pasture, may find the 3 board fence to be all they need.  Running a single strand of hot wire (electric wire or ElectroBraid wire) on the inside of the top board preserves the beauty of your horse fence while discourages chewing and playing with the fence.  If you are uncertain as to which variety of wooden horse board fencing and features matches your budget, we are happy to provide you with pricing options.

4 Board Fence with electric top/coyote safety wire

Pictured to the right:  4 Board fence with one high tinsel hot wire at the top encourages horses to stay home and discourages chewing.  The fence is treated with beautiful and lasting Kentucky black coat.  Each post is set in concrete with twist tied tensioners.  In this rural area of north Georgia, coyotes frequently kill newborn animals. To add additional protection for our customer's new foal, we installed Oklahoma Brand 1047 no climb horse wire ( barely visible )  to not detract from the appearance of the fence while providing additional protection when installed on the inside of the 4 board Georgia horse fence.

4 Board Horse Fence transitions to more economical option.

3 or 4 Board Wood Horse Fencing is often strategically placed to enhance a property's setting and home.  In areas less visible, continuing the fence with less costly options, such as high-tinsel hot wire, ElectroBraid, "gridded/mesh" wire or even barbed wire can be considered.

Friendly reminder:  If you are developing land, remove unwanted trees before your fence installers arrive.  Also, when tree stumps decay, they can create dangerous holes into which horses can step.  Removing root balls is a horse safe practice.

An inside strand of ElectroBraid Wire Discourages leaning against and cribbing on your horse fence.

Oh, horses are nosy, aren't they?   Just bet on Bessy taking a lick of your fence, as Murphy's Law would have it - a couple of weeks after our painter applied the beautiful Kentucky Black Coat finish.  If wire can be called "gorgeous", ElectroBraid fairly earns that description.

Easy to run and durable, ElectroBraid wire is just one more option available to you that keeps horses from leaning, rubbing or cribbing on your beautiful wooden Georgia horse fence.

When do I paint or stain my fence?

Allowing the boards of your newly installed Georgia horse fence to "cure" prior to application of paint or stain reduces the maintenance needs of your fence by preserving the wood and paint/stain.  Wooden board horse fencing can be painted any color and if you have teenage kids that want to earn the right to tell stories about "white washing their parents fence every summer in 100 degree heat", paint it white!  Lacking a desire to play Tom Sawyer and Huck Fin, we particularly admire "Kentucky Black Coat" which is frequently seen as black board horse fencing across Georgia on horse farms.

Because we recommend waiting 3 months before applying paint or stain to your fence, the cost of painting is not included in our fence price.  However, we have a fabulous painter and we are happy to provide you with his contact information or, if you prefer, we will coordinate the painting for you.

Complete attention is given to each project as if it were our own.  Additionally, respecting your property, keeping a clean and trash-free work site, courteous consideration of  your neighbors and finishing on time are important priorities.
